We haven't been using this setup very long at all, so it's hard to say. But I'm fairly confident with its stability, at least in this case which is really the simplest possible use case for mysql-proxy. I don't think I'm the only one out there using mysql-proxy in production.

mysql-proxy is "officially" still not a very mature product, so how has your stability been? How long have you been using the setup you describe?

I've considered this scenario. I figure that the cluster would coast along fine for a while, so it wouldn't cause an immediate outage but reduced performance at worst. So my plan is to eventually monitor all cluster health metrics and the Scalr node health with a pager system so that node could be quickly restored if it failed. I'm still looking for the perfect monitoring software.

Thanks Scott for the review! I'm glad that Scalr is working out well for you.

You advise using a non-AWS (non-ephemeral) server for Scalr. What happens if that single server has an undetected failure?
